Ford fiesta review - Ride and Handling

Ride and handling

The ride of the Fiesta is quite nice it shares its underpinnings with the international fiesta, but the suspension has been given a shot in the arm to cope with Indian conditions. This car also has anti-roll bars, case in point being that the Ikon still doesn't have one. Since the fiesta is out to woo buyers who are looking at cars like Aveo which has a real commendable ride, and the ford doesn't lose anything here. I would consider ride on cars to be on par, but the extra ground clearance on the Chevrolet Aveo

could come in handy when you come across some Mt.Everest types speed breakers! The car does lose some of its composure when going over bumps at low speeds, but once the speeds build, there are no issues from this very silent suspension.

The handling is very good, although the fiesta does seem bit heavy as it corners and the inputs aren't translated as sharply as you would have hoped and the steering does feel awfully heavy at high speeds, the car is very well mannered and the brakes will have you floored; they are progressive yet very effective. The only grouse is the 175/65 R13 tires which really could be replace for slightly bigger or similar patch 14" ones.

Verdict

I summarize this new ford as one that should be able to capture the buyers who are looking at an 8 lakh rupee car, but would like to buy a diesel simply thanks to the sense it makes to buy one today. The retail price is the same as that of a Honda city, but the city seems much more clever if you ask me. The fiesta is class leading in its own sense, but Honda and Ford fans are very different kinds of people. If you are looking at an efficient diesel and don't mind the high initial cost, go for the fiesta duratorque, but for urban and semi urban runs, I continue to prefer the perkiness that comes tagged with the petrol. Further, the Aveo which is also a petrol is way cheaper, but once again it has its pros and cons. Simply put, it's an almost even game between the three competitors; give us your opinion at out forum.
